Position Description

The primary purpose of the position is to plan, organize, develop and direct all in-service education programs for nursing staff and to conduct all mandatory in-service for Parker employees.

Plans, develops, directs, evaluates and coordinates education and on-the-job training programs.

  • Incorporates self-produced and commercially available materials and training aids into existing in-service programs as deemed necessary.
  • Develops, evaluates and controls the quality of in-service educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs for the Home.
  • Makes written and or/oral reports to the Director of Nurses concerning in-service training programs.
  • Works with consultants, service providers or as necessary and implements recommended changes as required.
  • Remains current on new developments by reading professional journals and attending professional seminars.
  • Develops schedules and delivers orientation programs for all nursing staff.
  • Assists licensed nursing staff (i.e., RN’s, LPN’s and Certified Nurse Aides) in obtaining in-service training to keep their licenses current in accordance with State law. Provides in-service as necessary/required.
  • Develops with the advice of the Director of Nurses the development of the certified nurse aides training curriculum used by the Home. Maintains records as required.
  • Coordinates and delivers mandatory in-services required for all employees.
  • Consults with Director of Nurses on competency training needs of nursing staff and periodically provides in-service training as required or requested.
  • Assists the Director of Nurses in the development of the in-service training budget.
  • Serves on various committees of the facility as required by existing regulations and as appointed by the Director of Nurses.
  • Meets with department supervisors on a regular basis and solicits advice concerning their training needs and assists in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
  • Maintains a productive working relationship with the medical staff and others throughout the Home.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Ensures that individual employee training records are maintained and filed in the employee’s personnel files.
  • Post notices of in-service training classes.
  • Rotates schedules to ensure the provision of in-service programs to nursing staff on all shifts and weekend staff.
  • Performs periodic duties as relief supervisor.
  • Provides direct nursing care as required by the Director of Nurses.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Nurses and the Administrator.

Education Training Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred
  • Current unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey .
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification by American Heart Association, required
  • Minimum two(2) years experience in a long-term care, acute care environment or other related health care facility preferred.
